So long, farewell - Afterl!fe, The Sacred Kaleidoscope

So this is gonna be a sad one for quite a few of us on the internet, but after a year of it being live.... Afterl!fe is shutting down. Thanks NHN.

Now, for those who don't know what this is, it's an otome gatcha app game where you end up getting too emotionally attached to 20 guys called "Soul Reapers" and end up helping them in a very simple interface. You collect cards of the characters, level them up, and let them fight on simple maps, while setting them up to do generic tasks for an hour and raising trust for stories.

With almost every card, you get a story and a bit more lore into each character. Alongside the main story, you get a fuller picture as to what goes on and who you're really working with. With there being 20 characters (5 groups of 4), you get a very colourful cast, with many personalities to discover. It's like a harem, but you're not supposed to lewd them as there's at least 3 minors (unless you also count 18 as minor, in which case there's a lot more).

Before I go into my favourites, I might as well get you introduced at least to these beautiful people that'll be in game for less than a month now.... It'll be overviews rather than deep character lore, but I'm happy to do that in a later post if you're interested.

First we have Mane, the morning team. From left to right, we have Ghilley, Ell, Jamie and Licht. All of them active in their own way, bringing some sort of sunshine onto the day. To keep you guessing, three of these are human and one is an angel. Can you figure it out? (If you've played the game, it's too easy and we must protect him at all costs)

Next is Die (A fitting name for a reaper who's dead). These regal gentlemen have poise and grace, alongside a feeling of honour that goes into everything they do. From left to right, we have Theo, Louis, Ethan and June. While all four are human, they come from very different backgrounds, complimenting each other perfectly.

Third up is Hesperide, an awkward name for a very colourful lot. With their pursuit for justice, all four of them fight evil spirits, even in high pressure situations. From left to right, we have Cyrille, Noah, Sian and Kati. This group feels like a bond of brothers, looking out for each other, while also annoying each other to no end.

Now for Noctu. Hunters by nature, they can fight in the dead of night. While mercy and virtue are their traits, they always seem to have a calculated plan when on a mission. From left to right we have Aitachi, Kirr, Nine and Day. Comrades in arms, at least three are wild children at heart, enjoying life as it is.

Last group is Diluculo. With wisdom by their side, there's no logic task they can't handle together. From left to right you have Verine, Quincy, Mori and Youssef. Don't be fooled by their looks as there's a devil among them. They work well together despite this, with new discoveries made every day.

So.... now that you've been acquainted with these gentlemen, do you have any favourites? Or am I just being weird about fictional characters? Your choice, but it won't affect me too much with my personal favourites.

These three beautiful munchkins!! Top 3 favourites (though I do like everyone). It's hard not to have 2/3 favourites in this, and oddly enough, the fandom itself is one of the most chill ones I've seen in a long time for this. Even when the game had no events going on, the fandom still kept going, especially on Twitter.

Right now, a lot of us are still feeling heartbroken over this happening. This game, that came out only for a year, ended up helping us in so many ways. We made friends all over the world, had many discussions about characters and lores, and even managed to be open about who we are. There's no judgement in this fandom, only hugs and a lot of random simping (but seriously though, Adult Jamie is a need that we never got T_T )

When the game was announced to be shutting down on the 19/20th (depending on timezone), the entire community started to reach out to each other, whether it was on the game, or on social media. Projects were formed, servers were made, and a lot of tasks were given to people to keep everything we love about this game alive.

While I'm not the most social, as of recent I even managed to pluck up the courage and take part in some of these things, joining a Twitter group to make our own events with tons of amazing, quirky people from all over the world. While the current stuff isn't out yet, the goal is for it to be there in December, so if you wanna check it out, the link to that will be at the end of this post.

Another thing I found was a Discord server. It's not densely populated, but it's honestly a relaxing place where you can message at any point to have at least someone awake. The owner (username Sunflowerrr), is honestly a gem and the community on there is, again, so chill. We can like who we like with no judgements, which is something not many fandoms have at this point.

While we'll all miss you, we'll never forget you. See you in the Afterlife,

R (24/11/2020)
